Sunset Revealed

This sunset began as a school assignment, but it turned into something more personal. I’m in the middle of a real shift, moving from comics into oils and mixed media, and these Studio Studies are where I’m finding my voice on canvas. This piece comes from a place I keep returning to, the Hawaiian islands, and the memories that live there for me. When our kids were little, we spent time together on the islands in a way that felt both simple and huge at the same time. Warm air, slow evenings, that last burst of light when the sky looks unreal, and you realize you are watching a moment you’ll want to hold onto forever.

I painted this as a way of keeping that feeling close. Not as a postcard, but as a memory you can stand in, with color doing the storytelling. The palm silhouettes anchor the scene, but the real subject is the light, the shift, the calm that settles in right before the day disappears.

For collectors, these studies have a unique value because they capture my transition in real time. They are finished, signed, one of one originals, but they are priced as studies while I build my larger body of gallery work. Once this one is gone, it’s gone, and it comes with a certificate of authenticity.
